New Clié T600C-handheld from Sony
A new handheld from Sony combines the
T415C's ultraslim design with the high-resolution color
display of the N600C. The new unit uses the newest version
of Palm's OS, and comes with a range of optional accessories,
including a digital camera and a GPS receiver.

Sony is becoming the new king of the
PalmOS-market, as they constantly push new models
with innovative features such as the MP3-player
found on the N760C and the 320x320 screen resolution
found on all Clié-models. Today they released
another handheld, named Clié PEG-N600C. The
new model is approximately the same size as the
slim PEG-T415 released by Sony a month ago, but
comes with a range of improvements over the first
one, including a 16-bit color display.
The T600C uses the classic Motorola
DragonBall VZ 33 MHz processor found in most PDAs,
and runs PalmOS 4.1. For expansion, it uses Sony's
patented Memory Sticks, and it communicates via
IR or the USB-connection found in its cradle. Like
the T415, it comes with software for using it as
an remote control, and it comes with a mail client,
web browser and alarm clock as well.

What really makes the T600C stand out from
the pack, is its pack of Memory Stick expansion packages.
The first expansion you can use is a Memory Stick-based
GPS receiver, that can be used with maps to pinpoint your
exact position anywhere on the planet with good precition.
Another possibility is a new MP3-module that can be bought
separately for both the T600C and its sibling, the T415.
Even more exciting is the possibility to
outfit the handheld with a digital camera through its
Memory Stick-slot. The camera just supports 160x120 and
320x240 resolutions, but can be used for taking low-res
images anywhere. Both this expansion module and the GPS
receiver can be used with all of Sony's current handhelds,
including the T400, T600C, N600C and N700C-series. The
new handheld and its expansion gear is expected to be
available internationally within January.
